Curriculum Subjects

At Hintlesham and Chattisham we are very proud of our school curriculum which is carefully planned and sequenced, and underpinned by our school vision along with our 'Precious' and Christian Values and ethos.

Within each area of our curriculum, our subject leaders have identified three big ideas known as our subject 'gems.' These provide the overarching themes within each subject. All the key knowledge that children learn is set within these, and teachers ensure that there is a balance across the whole of each series of lessons to ensure that all gems are covered.

Children are given regular opportunity to revisit learning, both within lesson sequences and across the respective areas of the curriculum as they move through the school. For example, children complete quizzes at the beginning of each lesson based on facts from knowledge organisers and set around the gems as anchor points. This provide the opportunity for them to revisit key facts and knowledge and to promote knowledge moving from their short-term working memory, to their long-term memory.
