Religious Education

As a church of England school, the teaching of Religious Education (RE) is an integral part of our curriculum. We believe that RE should get children thinking about the big questions in life and help them to begin to form and express their own beliefs, as well as understand and appreciate other's beliefs.

We follow ‘The Emmanuel Project’ as our scheme of work throughout the school which:

  • introduces Christianity as the ‘heritage religion’ of the country and the one that most influences our school and community life

  • builds on religions represented among pupils, e.g. different Christian denominations or other major world religions.

  • provides an opportunity to explore major world religions, outside the children’s experience, in order to extend their knowledge and understanding.

The four key attitudes for RE from the Suffolk Syllabus: respect for all, open-mindedness, appreciation and wonder and self-awareness are fully embedded into all aspects of our RE teaching and learning.

As a school, we believe that it is extremely important for our children to develop an understanding of faith in all its forms, alongside the development of mutual respect for and acceptance of those with different faiths and beliefs, and for those without.  These beliefs form learning gems (big ideas) for RE enabling our children to be thoughtful and tolerant members of a multicultural and diverse society.
