It has been a wonderfully busy time in Ruby Class, filled with lots of exciting learning opportunities. We have been working extremely hard on developing our independent writing skills and thoroughly enjoyed creating a list of party food for Ruby Bear’s 5th birthday celebration—Mrs Death even took our lists with her on a real shopping trip to Tesco! We have also begun our ‘Follow Me Friday’ sessions. Our first expert was Hattie, who taught the class all about the life cycle of a butterfly. We then created our own symmetrical butterflies using printing techniques, which looked fantastic. Alongside all of this classroom learning, we have been impressing with our enthusiastic singing and confident acting as we prepare for our performance of The Noisy Nativity. We are so proud of how hard we are working.

November 2025
We’ve had a fantastic start to the new half term in Ruby Class! Since coming back, we’ve been busy learning about the history of Guy Fawkes and why we celebrate Bonfire Night. We showed great responsibility as we learned how to stay safe on Bonfire Night, and we used our creativity to make some beautiful firework paintings - including one big masterpiece we created together, showing wonderful unity and teamwork. We also enjoyed making our own edible chocolate sparklers! A big thank you to the parents who joined us for our Share and Learn afternoon this week. Families joined in with our Drawing Club session, where this week’s story was Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and enjoyed a chocolate sparkler treat with their child. In our maths lessons we have been comparing groups of objects. We have looked carefully and talked about what we can see using comparison words like “more than” and “fewer than.” We have also continued to learn our Set 1 sounds in phonics with Fred Frog and have started exploring ‘special friends’ sounds - two letters that make one sound, like sh, ch and th. We have been using these sounds to read and write simple words, building our confidence as early readers and writers. In PE, we’ve been practising our ball skills, showing great perseverance as we developed our throwing and catching skills with a range of different-sized balls.

It has been another busy and successful week in Ruby Class. We have now learned 18 sounds in phonics and are all developing our blending skills to hear and read words with increasing confidence. In mathematics, we have been exploring the concept of measure. In particular we enjoyed baking gingerbread biscuits and using scales to weigh the ingredients. We also had great fun measuring our own height and comparing results with our friends. Our daily Dough Disco sessions, complete with disco lights, are helping to strengthen hand, wrist and finger muscles — an important step in developing fine motor control. Our writing is progressing so well that we have even begun focused handwriting practice. During Drawing Club, we have been learning about 'adventures from the past' through the character Bananaman. We were fascinated — and we suspect a few parents may remember watching it too! In Wild Woods we have enjoyed cooking apples on the fire and playing on our new tyre swing as well as spotting signs of Autumn and playing the hibernation game!

September 2025
Huge congratulations to our new Ruby Class children who have all started school for the first time this year. We have settled well into school life and have already been so busy with our learning. This week has been a particularly exciting week of learning! Fred Frog has been busy helping us to read and write the sounds m, a, s, d, and t – and we're already blending them together like phonics superstars! We also completed our very first Drawing Club sessions , where we explored some fantastic new words: timid, sobbing, shimmering, enraged, tranquillity, and even discombobulated! Mrs Death and Mrs Greenwood have been absolutely blown away by our incredible imaginations, creative drawings, and clever magic codes. What a brilliant start to the term.

There are 4 key principles that underpin our practice in EYFS at Hintlesham and Chattisham:
A Unique Child We recognise that all children are different. We identify and celebrate their strengths and support their areas for development.
Positive Relationships Our pupils interact well with each other and with the adults in the school. We encourage parents to be involved with their child's education.
Enabling Environments Our indoor and outdoor areas encourage exploration, investigation and independent learning. Our displays and resources are well maintained and reflect current learning.
Learning and Development Pupils achieve well and make good progress from their starting points. Learning is playful, practical and purposeful and builds upon prior attainment. Our children enjoy coming to school.
